We Are One.
That’s what all of them knew as they watched the city burn. How this came to be, none of them really knew. They just stood there, watching and waiting until the perfect time to strike those who had killed their city…

The dream caused her to sit straight up from where she had passed out on her couch. Was that really going to come true? She prayed that it wouldn’t, but as she turned on the TV, the girl lost what little hope she had. The crime rate in Empire City was still climbing, a little more every day. Even while she stood at night to protect her city, there was no way she could do this on her own. Hopefully those like her understood the same thing and they would meet with her tonight at the Howling Moon bar. They were to come in civilian clothing to not draw attention to themselves.

It was around noon when she had turned on the TV to see the news talking about Rakel, the new mob boss. He sickened her to no end. Rakel was a convicted rapist of children, boys being his favourite. Her nose wrinkled up slightly and she just let out a sigh. He had already threatened the “heroes” of this city, telling them if they messed in his business, more would die. Most of them had taken his warning seriously, but not her. She was bound and determined to kill him and his little mob group. Sure, her “super power” wouldn’t make most shake in their boots, but she knew how to use her ability in ways no one had ever seen before. The thought of what she could do to that man made her lips pull into a dark grin as she got up and began making her way to the small bathroom she shared with a roommate, who happened to be passed out in the hallway from drinking too much last night.

After carefully stepping over her roomie, she made her way into the bathroom. Once she was in, the door closed behind her. She was taking her hair out of its ponytail when the water came on in the shower. The curtain moved on its own as well as she was taking her clothes off to step into the shower. Once the water hit her body, her eyes closed and she just let herself relax. It had been a long time since she had been able to just let her guard down like she was now. The only reason she was now was because they had installed an alarm system in the small house, just in case. Lately the neighborhood had been getting worse and worse and apparently her roomie had something he needed to keep safe, so they got the alarm system. As she showered, she heard movement outside of the bathroom. Her roommate had finally woken up and he was trying to get into the bathroom. “Let me in Ley ley!” As he said that, she felt herself tense up. If that door hadn’t been in the way, she would have thrown him across the room.

The water was heard turning off and she wrapped a towel around her before opening the door. “Take a shower Jay and hurry up. I think Alex might be coming over.” Alex had an ability, like she did. They had met after a bank robbery they had both responded to. Alex decided to try to show her up, but Adaley had more control over her ability than he did. After all, she had been born with her ability. When she was seventeen, Adaley got a tattoo that read ‘Born Like This’ between her shoulder blades. It was how she reminded herself she was born with this ability, it wasn’t given to her. Jay had crawled into the bathroom and she could hear the shower running. At least he was trying to sober up. Her phone rang from across her bedroom. All she had to do was look at it and it came to her. It was Alexander calling her. “Hey… Yeah, I’m home. Come on over and we’ll head to HM together.” The phone was shut and then thrown on the bed.

Her closet opened and out came a pair of jeans and a shirt. From a dresser came panties and a bra. She grabbed the pink lace panties and put them on quickly, followed by her bra. Just as those were on, there was a knock at the front door. She sighed and headed out in just her undies to answer it. Jay stared at her as she walked through the living room, his mouth open slightly. Adaley had a prefect body. She had curves in all the right places, a toned stomach and perfect arms and thighs. Opening up the door, Alex just whistled at her before walking in. “Give me a minute Alex.” She said, walking back to her room. Adaley could hear them talking about her as she was in her room. The girl just rolled her eyes as she put on her jeans and shirt.

Walking back out, she smiled at Alex. “Care to get lunch before we head over to HM?” It was already 1 and they were all to meet there when it opened at 6. Five hours to kill and food was sounding really good at the moment. He agreed and they left, leaving Jay to do as he pleased until she came back. Of course, his day usually consisted of watching porn and drinking. The two walked outside to the curb where her car was parked. Getting in, it would only take twenty minutes to arrive at the restaurant.

Arriving at the place, Adaley parked her car in its usual spot. Howling Moon was only two blocks from the small restaurant, so they could walk over there after dinner. The two walked together side by side, trying to give off the look of a young couple. Adaley was sure thats what Alex wanted, but she couldn't be sure she could trust him. Just because she was a good girl didn't mean he would be a good guy. They walked in and found there was a table already ready for them. How odd was that? Adaley hadn't called for reservations. Looking to Alex, he just grinned. The girl shook her head as they were seated. "Lets eat so we can head out as soon as possible." She liked being places early, just in case...

[[ Leaving off here, I'd like to note your first post should just be about your character and what they are doing before the meeting. Adaley left them all letters at crime scenes she knew they had been at. You can arrive before Adaley and Alex if you wish, but don't get there too early. :3 ]]

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

“Hey… Yeah, I’m home. Come on over and we’ll head to HM together.”

Oh god, the butterflies were there again. Hearing her voice gave him goose bumps and filled his mind with so many thoughts that it was hard to tell which way he was walking, let alone put together a whole sentence that actually made sense. Still, he had to give off the air that he knew what he was doing and that he was confident in everything he did, no matter how bad actually being around Adaley scared him. "Sure thing, sweetheart," he said with a chuckle. "I'll be over there just as soon as I actually get some pants on...I mean...put gas in the car."

Yeah, there was his first mental facepalm of the evening.

They said their goodbye and he finished getting dressed, finally settling on a black button-up shirt and a pair of dark wash jeans. She'd chastised him quite frequently about his color choice, but it couldn't be helped: When he was in action, he was the epitome of darkness. With his cloak and scythe, he was the harbinger of death, no, he was death personified. He was everyone's fear, no matter how adamantly they stood against the thought, and he knew it. It was what made care about his job even more.

When he was plain old Alex Rymer, no one cared who he was or what he did. He was just another face in the crowd, another runner in the Rat Race. He was a nobody to everyone, and he hated it as deeply as one could hate something. Putting on the cloak and grabbing the scythe made him someone, and he wasn't about to give that up anytime soon. Plus, the whole saving the lives of the innocents thing was also pretty damn cool.

He smiled and nodded at himself in the mirror, giving himself another once over before turning towards the door. He muttered a soft quasi-Latin phrase as he moved, his deep green eyes blazing to life with a bright light. The glowing soon died away and he lifted his wrist up as if to check if the bracelet was still there. A soft sigh escaped him as his eyes caught sight of the gleaming onyx-colored metal. Intricate designs were inlaid into the onyx, along with a few glyphs from some sort of ancient language. This was his only protection until he called upon his power, so it had to do. Another quick muttering and the glyphs flashed with a bright light and then faded out. It was a simple protection charm, but it would last him the night. At least he hoped it would.

The trip to her apartment was quick, the trip up her stairs just as fast, but the world seemed to be moving in slow motion as he moved towards her door. His heart pounded in his chest, his palms were sweaty but he held his cool as best he could. Three sharp raps on the door, followed by a quick prayer that Jay would answer the door. Of course he wasn't that lucky: His eyes caught site of her curves and his jaw nearly dropped. He cleared his throat softly and whistled at her, smiling as she rolled her eyes at him.

There was that second mental facepalm.

He made light conversation with Jay, hearing mostly about how wasted he was going to get while the two of them were out. Alex just laughed and warned him that too much alcohol could inhibit that fapping that was, undoubtedly, also on the man's schedule. Jay laughed and patted Alex on the shoulder. The conversation turned more towards Adaley, and he could feel that pressure in his chest start to build up again.

"Yeah, man," Jay said, "she's hot stuff. If she wasn't my roommate, I might be trying to hit that. You’ve got to get some of that action and fill me in.” Alex’s jaw muscles tightened, his grip drawing his hands into tight fists.

“I dunno, Jay,” he said softly, chuckling as he tried to push away some of that anger, “I’m not really the ‘kiss and tell’ kind of guy. Besides, don’t you think it’s just a little bit rude for us to be talking about her like this when she’s just in the next room over?”

Jay cocked an eyebrow and Alex before laughing and clapping his hand on Alex’s shoulder once again. “You’re a good guy, Rymer,” he said. “I’m glad it’s you dating Ley Ley and not some other jackass.”

“Wait,” Alex said, stunned. “She said we’re-“

He was cut off just as she decided to make her entrance. He looked at Jay with a smile and walked over towards her. His eyes caught hers and he stumbled for words. “Sure,” he said softly, clearing his throat, “that sounds good. In fact, there’s that new place close to the bar that I know you’ve been dying to try. I just hope we can get in….” Of course, he’d already called ahead and reserved them one of the best seats in the house, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t surprise her with it.

The restaurant hadn’t even started to fill up like it normally would, but the people around them were still amazed to see the “couple” get in as quickly as they had. She stared at him as they were seated and he just grinned. “Who says I don’t know how to treat a lady,” he asked, chuckling to himself. She still didn’t seem like she wanted to be there as much as he did, but he shook the feeling away, his eyes gazing down at the menu that he held.

“Please,” he said softly, a mischievous smile on his face, “it’s not going to hurt if we’re a bit late. Hell, it won’t even hurt if we’re on time. Just, please, enjoy yourself.”

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

Post by Aesalon Thu May 28, 2009 9:17 pm

The heavy oaken door closed behind Andrew MacInnes, shutting out the chaotic cacophony of bells and whistles that pervaded the casino floor. While the sounds faded to a dull rhythm, Drew fingered the mysterious letter that he had secreted inside the interior pocket of his suit jacket, and contemplated the dead man whom the letter had belonged to…

“I hear you killed that Shroud character?” Big Tonys’ voice boomed in the small chamber. The mob underboss had been sitting in the overstuffed leather chair all along. The diminutive mobster slowly swiveled the chair around to face Andrew. “Is it true, Andy? Is that pain in the ass dead?”

“Yessir”, Drew replied quickly– guessing that after his meeting with Rakel, the boss was in no mood for small talk. “He fell and shattered his spine, sir.” Again, Drew’s thoughts roamed to the letter, it was in an unassuming envelope, directed simply to ‘The Shroud’ in a somewhat artistic flowing script. After the costumed hero had met his doom, Drew found the unopened letter sitting atop a crate in the shipping container that he had been assigned to load, sitting there as if The Shroud was expected to find it.

‘Big’ Tony Lothario let out a god-awful noise somewhere between a choking cough and a full-out guffaw. “How…how…” now his eyes began to water in anticipation of his upcoming joke, “How unlucky for him.” Tony proceeded to pound his fist into his desk 4 or 5 times before finally composing himself. “You did good kid, that costumed freak was making us look bad, one more lost shipment and the big chief would likely have needed to find a new casino manager…if ya know what I’m sayin’.” Lothario took a drink of water and continued, “Really kid, take a break, go get some rest, play some blackjack…in ANOTHER casino, I’ll see you next week.”

Drew hurried towards the restrooms near the roulette tables and ducked inside one of the stalls to tear open the mysterious letter. The document inside was simply an invitation, an invitation to meet this evening at a place called the Howling Moon Bar. After he had completely stored every bit of the letter in his memory, he struck a match and burned it down to just the corner before dropping the remains into the toilet. Drew waited for a moment to insure that the smoke alarms didn’t trigger and then he walked casually out of the restroom and towards the main casino doors.

Keeping things from the boss was not something that Drew often did, but in the last 2 minutes he had held back 2 very important things. First, the letter – If it was legit then Rakel may have a shot to take down most of these costumed weirdoes in a single strike. Second, the dead man under the cowl was one of Rakel’s men…”why would…” Drew began to mutter under his breath when he noticed that in his wake every slot machine within 10 feet of the aisle was pouring out nickels and quarters to the suddenly enthused slot-zombies. Taking a deep breath to steady his control, Drew set out for his midtown condo…which, as luck would have it, was only two blocks from a little bar named the Howling Moon…

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

Post by Lenny Sun May 31, 2009 8:17 pm

Ryne wasn't very excited as he awoke from his afternoon nap. The sound of the busy streets outside were not music to his ears. He shifted his position on the bed to the left and glared at his clock. "3:00 PM. How wonderful..." The apartment building he lived in wasn't a big one, only three stories tall. As he made his way towards the bathroom, he remembered that he had to check the mail. He has been waiting for mail from his mom about his dad who is currently undergoing surgery. "I'll get it in a second". He let out a sigh and went to pee.

He rummaged through his things to find the key to his mailbox which was on the first floor. Ryne lived on the third floor, so it was sort of a pain to go up and down the stairs. His mailbox was rusty; it had gotten rusty over the past two years of living in the old apartment. He inserted the key into the key hole and turned the key. The mailbox had only one envelope in it. Ryne grabbed it and locked the mailbox and began to make his way back to the room.

His hair was all over the place because he was a bad sleeper; he could never stay still and his head rubbed against the pillow. "I need to take a shower" he said to himself as he made his way back to the bathroom. He simply threw the envelope onto the counter, not even taking a look at who sent it.

He turned on the shower to the hottest it could be and undressed. To make sure the water was at the temperature he wanted, he placed it under the water. Once he felt it was right, he got in the shower. The shower faucet blasted the warm water at his back. "Father, you'll make it out of surgery...I know it."

After about ten minutes, Ryne turned both handles of the shower and the water stopped running. He wrapped a towel around his waist and went into the kitchen to grab the envelope he had gotten from the mailbox. "Nope, not mom..." All the letter read was, "Howling Moon @ 8PM". Ryne threw the letter back onto the counter and went to his room to get dressed.

By the time Ryne got ready, it was 4:30 PM. He had approximately three and a half hours to get to Howling Moon. Ryne assumed that his mom forgot to send the letter about Dad's surgery, so he called her on her cell phone. She nearly never picked it up, but thankfully, she did this time. "Mom, how's dad doing...?"

Ryne's mom was sobbing, and replied, "He's gone. The doctors couldn't save him. If you can make it to the funeral that would be great. I'll talk to you later, I..I..." The call abruptly ended; she hung up. Ryne was speechless; he couldn't think either. He was utterly devastated. "I can't believe it...Dad's gone."

Ryne grabbed a jacket from his closet and made his way to the restaurant near his apartment building. It was a small, nice coffee shop. He ordered a tuna sandwich and coffee. He wasn't very hungry, he just needed something to do to pass the time; he had no work do be done around the house either. "Three more hours to go..."

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

It was true, she was more nervous than anything else. Looking over at Alex, she just smiled. “Sorry. I’ll try to relax.” The music within the restaurant was soft and romantic. It kind of made her feel a little uncomfortable. Sure, she liked Alex and all, but they were still different. He has this amazing ability and all she could do was move things with her mind. He made her envious, but Adaley kept it to herself. There was no reason for her to let Alex know such things. He was a great guy and even Jay had told her how she should be with him.

As she picked up the menu, their waitress came by. Did they have to have a waitress? Really? The girl seemed to have her eyes locked on Alex. Jealousy rose in Adaley and she wanted to hurt the other female for even looking at the man she was with. No. She shouldn’t be thinking like that. The waitress asked if they wanted anything to drink. “I’ll have a glass of your best red wine.” Ada said, looking over at Alex with a smile. He knew she would pay for her drinks. The waitress got Alex’s order before slipping him a piece of paper. When her back was turned, Adaley made the paper float over to her. She opened up the paper and sighed before tearing it up.

“Sorry Alex…” She just smiled at him and winked. He wouldn’t care, would he? Probably not. After all, from what Jay told her, Alex was crazy about her. The waitress came back with their drinks and she didn’t seem to be too happy. Something had pissed her off in such a short amount of time. That showed Adaley she had little self control. An idea came to mind, but the telekinetic would leave her alone. It wasn’t nice to mess with innocent people. The waitress put their drinks on the table and then left to give them more time to order. Adaley sipped on her wine as she looked at Alex.

“Do you think they’ll show up?” She had been nervous about this since she had left the letters. Would the others even show up? Maybe. It was their decision, but she was sure none of them wanted to see their city burn, did they? Some might, but hopefully most of them would want to help her save this place. Empire City was their homes and if they didn’t protect it, no one would. She sipped on her drink as she waited on their girl to come back and get their orders.

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

A styrofoam container full of gnocci from the restaraunt downstairs sat untouched on Drew's cherry wood dining room table, for the last two hours he had paced every piece of floor in his half million dollar condo, and still he was haunted by the dead man and his secrets. Nothing had made him feel better, he had printed every article about The Shroud that had been printed in both of the Empire City newspapers, but he knew little more than he had this morning when he removed the cowl that covered the face of the 'hero'.

Beginning six months ago a masked man, dressed in black and covering his face had been foiling mob activity in the dock districts - each article seemed to show more admiration for the vigilante than the one before. Most of newsmen seemed to have some conjecture as to his identity - a billionaire playboy, a local dishwasher or Drew's personal favorite, a ninja warrior. None were close, the man behind the cowl was family, and not just any made man he was one of Rakel's personal bodyguards.

Drew's head was spinning, in his head the dice were already rolling and he knew that the decision was already made - for tonight at least, he would be The Shroud. Checking his Rolex, he saw that just over an hour remained - that should be enough time to scout the bar and calm his nerves enough to appear as though he belonged there.

He took the stairs from his fourth floor suite that spilled out into the lobby of the small yet classy restaraunt on the main floor - Drew's eyes paused for a second on a young couple enjoying some red wine and for a moment he envied them their peace, soon though, his stride carried him out into the late afternoon sun and within a few short minutes into the Howling Moon...

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

Post by Hank J Wimbleton Tue Jun 02, 2009 2:33 pm

The cloaked, hooded figure floated motionlessly in the round chamber, seven yards or so above the marble floor. The black cloth draped around the man's body hung down, unmoving, hiding his entire frame. His head was tilted forward slightly, denying the light coming from the lamps above to shine on his face, blocked by the hood.

Something stirred below, on the ground. It looked up to the high ceiling, praying for a window so it could see the world outside. But there were no windows. It was trapped in the chamber, with only the eerie figure floating above the ground for company. It had long ago stopped to question if that was even possible, as it seemingly was.

Suddenly, the floating figure moved. What was below also moved, alerted -- the light now got a chance to illuminate it, and it turned out to be a woman. Backing away ever so slightly, the woman stared up at the dark shape now, fear in her eyes.

The man's head turned to face the woman, who's breath stopped in her throat, constricted in terror. She had hoped the person was dead, hung by a transparent wire or something, but alas, that was not the case. An arm appeared from underneath the black cloth and pointed at the woman, who felt inexplicable powers grip her and lift her up from the ground. The arm tilted up until it was perfectly horizontal, positioning the struggling woman in front of him. The cloth he wore rippled and flowed with every movement, as if it were submerged underwater.

"So you killed one of my ... pawns?" the man asked, a barely visible smile curling his lips. The woman stuttered, but produced no audible words. Eventually, she just screamed, tears streaming down her cheeks in fear of imminent death.
"Silence is a virtue, woman."
With bone-crushing force, she was slammed into the ground.

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

Post by Shades Of Gray Wed Jun 03, 2009 9:12 pm

The trick was not to breathe right away. Breathing too soon gave the sensation of inhaling cobwebs. You could feel each individual one clinging to the inside of your nose, sticking, clotting, tugging, pulling deeper and deeper until it tangled in your lungs. Then, like heartburn it began to disolve, leaving your chest aching and tighting, an uncomfortable swelling while it dispersed back into nothing. Next came the cold, like thousands of dull needles stabbing into your skin, pushing at you, trying to resist much in the same way as water before your mass won out, and you were drifting through, slowing but not stopping. The cold began to ease, the pain began to die away, and then Roxy was able to open her eyes, if she dared, and direct herself to where she wanted to go.

Where too? It seemed to ask her. Over time the voice evolved, a deep, low rumbling that caused her bones to ache. Inhuman. Ethereal. When she was young, Roxy had assumed it was something as simple as her own intuition and thoughts, speaking louder than before because she was no longer in the material plane everyone else was restricted to. But when the dreams started, when the voice continued to speak on it's own accord, and when she felt... things, she knew it was another entitiy entirely. You? No where... She calmly spoke to it without actually voicing her words aloud. Just me... Always, it's just me. The laughter pulled at her, and little points in her skin felt as if bits of string or twine were connected, pulling; a few on her arms, her legs, along her shoulders, from her cheek and worst of all at her gut.

She frowned, scowling softly with her annoyance as she struggled against the force that constantly tried to con her into allowing its release. Vetis was it's name; male in tone, but she was begining to believe that this entity was more than simple presence. Demonic; though such things weren't whispered aloud. Only one other knew of this other side, and that was Zaki, the man she was currently trying to see. Where is he? There. Much like swimming, Roxy shifted her possition in the vast void, kicking towards the pale haze that offered an escape from this place, and back into the world she fought so hard to stay apart of.

The woman exploded from the back alley, gasping as she pulled herself from the shadows, which clung to her body, sticking like tar before snapping free and falling away. She moved to fast, again, and that pain shifted through her body as she braced herself against the wall, gasping as her eyes teared at the sudden exposure of light. She was getting better, every time she was able to cover more distances. But too far took a toll, and she needed a few moments to adjust and remind herself where she was, before she straightened and stepped away. Vetis was laughing still, but it was a distant feeling more than sound; similar to the subway cars running below the city streets. She pushed a hand through her short hair, breathing steadier as she moved out onto the main street, loosing herself with the rest of the crowd. It wasn't far from Zaki, and she needed the small break to shake herself of the unease she found consuming her as of late.

He wasn't a tall man, but Zaki wasn't short, either. His skin was a deep olive native to the Eastern blood, with hair black as pitch, and eyes the color of dark chocolate. They were bedroom eyes, able to melt the hearts of women within a few short blinks. His smile was coy, a little dangerous, but sultry and seductive the way a wild animal's print would be. He was charming, handsome, charasmatic, and at the same time; an utter and complete asshole. The woman met him by accident, and since then she managed to charm the predator instead with her amused innocense; even given her 'powers'. With a white button-up shirt, dark stone-washed jeans and a cigarette lit in his mouth, the man nodded to Roxy as she approached, hands stuffed into the pockets of her zip up hoody. Always at ease, he tucked the zippo into his pocket and took a slow, deep drag, holding it, before sighing the smoke out of mouth and nose. "Wasn't expecting you for another half hour."

His accent was mild; it was easy to listen to, promised raunchy interludes and heavy breathing, but lingered with an almost lazy boredom. Some women found it irrisistable. Roxy found it simply 'Zaki'. He didn't have that lurring effect on her. "I jumped."

"I figure."

He took another puff of the cigarette, and plucked it out from between his lips before looking at his partner. They stood calmly out in the open, not in the least be afraid to be seen; between the tricks the both were able to pull off, they had grown rather accustomed to keeping an eye on one another's back. Zaki shifted, pivoting on the ball of his foot, and started down the street. "Plans have changed." That made Roxy frown, and she jogged to fall into Zaki's pace. "Changed how?"

"Changed completely. Something came up." A dark brow arched in question to his responce, and knowing that he had her attention; Zaki took his time savoring the smoke from his cigarrette, in no rush to update her on the shift of plans. "Got a letter." She only blinked, waiting for more. "There's a meeting." Now Roxy was confused, her brows furrowing before it began to sink and, and she was able to assume. "...for?" He shrugged his shoulders. "Not quite sure. Might be... benificial to scope it out." Might.... might was a dangerous word. Might replaced 'unlikely' and that never ended well for anyone. Zaki didn't seem to mind, and the two headed down towards the bar. "Could be fun..."

"I take if you've a inkling of a thought as to what this is all about?" The eastern man smirked, but averted his eyes from flicking to her, and continued on. "Perhaps.."

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

Post by Guest Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:28 pm

A grin played across his rugged features as his eyes caught the pile of confetti that used to be the waitress's phone number. He'd never seen any kind of emotion other than happiness when she wasn't in hero mode, so the jealousy added a certain sparkle that almost intoxicated him. "I'm sure they will, sweetheart," he said softly, lifting the coffee cup to his lips and taking a long drink. "If they're anything like us, they've been wondering what they can do to help in the first place. Problem is, the city isn't willing to cooperate with people that have abilities that they don't understand."

She smiled at Alex, glad he had decided to make these reservations. “Anyway, enough hero talk. How have you been? I’ve missed seeing you out and about. You been busy?” Probably. They were always busy. Her fingers ran through her black hair and she sighed. Another sip of her drink and she felt her head swim slightly. Wine got her drunk faster than anything and she knew she’d have to stop soon or else she wouldn’t be able to control her ability as well. Glancing to Alex, Adaley felt her cheeks flush slightly. He was looking at her that way again and that look always made her blush.

He smiled, feeling his own cheeks start to heat up as he saw her blush. "Oh, you know," he said with a small smile, "the normal stuff. Well...not exactly normal: The Empire City Council alerted me on Wednesday to the disappearance of a good friend." He sighed and ran a hand through his short brown locks, closing his eyes tightly. "It's probably the best anyway....He was into some pretty bad stuff...."

One of his friends had gone missing? Who? Her brow furrowed in confusion and she just shook her head. It seemed like a lot of people were going missing lately. Looking around, golden hues seemed to notice things slowing down. What in the world was going on? At the table next to them, she spotted a waiter pouring wine into a glass. The liquid itself began to slow and become suspended in mid-air. Wide eyes looked back to Alex. At least he was still moving. She looked down at her hands to see runes showing up on the table. “What the fuck is going on here?” Adaley was about to stand when she spotted the man across the room, a hood covered his face. “Alex…We need to go…”

"Nonsense, Adaley," the man said, though now he was just a few feet from them. "Why not just sit while I have a nice little chat with Alexander." The hood turned towards Alex and bright green eyes shone from the darkness beneath the fabric. There was something familiar about this figure and those green eyes, something that he just couldn't quite put his finger on. The fabric that covered the table soon started to burn away, leaving charred black indentions of the runes that had once been there. What language were they, anyway?

Oh my God....Atlantean....

"Jackson," Alex screamed and stood quickly, yanking the hood off of his friend's head. "Where the hell have you been? The Council has listed you as disappeared." Jackson smiled through his long black hair, those green eyes still piercing through the darkness.

"It's better than what they'd have done if they'd gotten ahold of me, and you know that," he said, chuckling evilly. "Those close-minded twits believe they're better than the rest of the magical community just because their style of magic is the "more acceptable" style. What they don't realize is that there is so much more that you all are capable of! The ars arcana is limiting your powers!"

He felt his jaws clench and his fists tighten as Jackson spoke these words. He stepped towards Jackson quickly and pushed him back hard. "You're a dumb asshole, you know that," Alex asked. "Atlantean magic was outlawed for a reason! It's slow and it's unstable and you have no idea what kind of toll it's capable of taking out on your body! Why do you think that the Council sank their city?! Leave. It. Be."
Jackson grinned and stood slowly, his eyes never leaving Alex. "Suit yourself, brother. You could have been so much more: These people could have been your slaves! You've gotten soft with your feelings for this, this...this bitch." He turned away from them and started to walk across the room, flipping his hood back onto his head. The cloaked figure stopped and turned back to look at the pair.

"You know," Jackson said softly, "we're not so different, Alexander: We're both death personified. The one difference is that you don't use your powers wisely. And so it shall be: Azrael shall battle Anubis for the power, and only one embodiment of death shall make it out alive." He turned away again and called out to them from looking the other way. "You might want to get out of here soon."

Jackson disappeared in a flash and Alex turned back to look at Adaley, his eyes wide with shock. He grabbed ahold of her wrist and pulled her towards the door. "We need to be out of here...now!"

She listened to them carefully. Atlantean Arcane magic… She had spaced out up until the time Jackson called her a bitch. Her lip pulled up in a snarl and she nearly sprung the man, but something told her she had better not do something that stupid. Adaley was about to ask Alex what the fuck was going on when he grabbed her wrist and started dragging her towards the door. Something bad was about to happen. Just as the two of them exited out of the building, it seemed to almost implode on itself.

Lying where the restaurant once was, a pile of ash and rubble seemed to stare at them. Her mouth opened slightly and she looked over to Alex. “Okay…who the fuck was that and what the fuck just happened?” Adaley felt her grip on his hand tighten more. Now the only place they could go was the Howling Moon. “We might as well head over to HM… There’s nothing left here and the cops will be here soon.” She left her hand in his as she turned to walk towards the bar.

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

I should be able to forget that place as easily as any other. It's not like Empire City never hosted it's own mass of back-alley blood-baths. Desperate scum pandering to the ruthless upper-crust of this city's darkest and demented. Honest folk caught between powerful evils that tear at their own throats as much as any 'honest good' that's left here. What starts with dark dealings of dirty money and even dirtier secrets turns to terror, betrayal, and eventually blood. The great thing about staying in the grey between good and evil is how easy it is to walk away every day from one scene, only to find the same thing waiting for you the very next morning... So why is this different?

Victor threw his heavy boots atop his wide desk, the thick soles pounding a steady set of thumps as the stable oak shuddered under the paired poundings. Lord only knew what stopped him from toppling over backwards with every onch that tilted him closer and closer to the floor, but somehow Vic kept himself safely secured in the ancient leather chair that had served him for years. Even the popping creaks of complaint from the aged hide went unheard by the single set oif deaf ears in the room.

Tripple homicide. Three bodies lined up single file down the alley, all of them standing in similar spots before each was fed a bullet courtesy of a fourty five caliber caterer. Any idiot worth half a damn can recognize an execution when they see one, even if these crazies lack the class to give a man a blindfold. Something about seeing a smoking barrel right before you die really punctuates a point. Everything was quick, quiet, and very messy... Which means this little present wasn't part of the plan.

Victor glared at the letter clutched in his hand for all of two seconds before flipping it open to read the handwritten scrawl scribbled inside one last time. The Howling Moon, Six o'clock p.m. Vic had spent too many years knowing everyone's next step to be entirely comfortable with the thought of being caught with his pants swimming around his ankles. For a man who made mystery his every-day vocation, this little unexpected nugget almost had the Pre-cog grinding his teeth to pulp. Finding the sealed and unsigned note as if it was waiting for him was bad enough. But that was nothing compared to how galling it was to think that a single sentence could tie -him- up in indecision! ".... Fine. I'll take a nibble or two and see if anything gives a jerk back," the man muttered to himself as he rose from his seat, his hands already filled with the pair of pistols that never left his sides. Two seconds later and with his 'heat' safely stowed out of sight and well within his mind, Victor's slow steps sent him out the door and into the blaring light of the afternoon day. The comely blonde's mad-man blue eyes suffered a squint against the glare of direct sunlight, forcing a frown of iritated curiosity that grew stronger still with every step that sent him down the street.

Okay, mystery man. Let's see if this crap is worth the headache I've felt since first seeing that damned little love-note.

The cloaked figure descended to the floor, his bare feet touching the cold marble, the cloth flowing around him like whispers of the night, touching and exploring the realm of the light.

With steady steps, the man walked to a large, oaken door, which opened with a lazy flick of the man's hand. Stepping outside, into a long, narrow corridor, fashioned of the same precious marble as the round chamber, the man saw the two others guarding the door, more of his henchmen, who looked at him with awe and respect.
"I will be... outside for a while. Nobody enters. Understood?"
The guards nodded and saluted. Grinning, the cloaked man made his way down the corridor.

Raphael was his name. When he reached the end of the corridor -- yet another door -- he stood still for a few seconds. He had a destination, something new and exciting. The Howling Moon... He had found the note on a corpse of a pathetic hero who had tried to stop his illegal operations, and it seemed like a nice opportunity to meet his enemies.

He moved his hand forward, and synchroneously, the door opened. Raphael floated outside , the palms of his hands facing up, arms slightly spread out. He breathed in the cool air of the twilight and levitated higher, looking down on the abandoned alley in which the door to his lair was located. The wind caught the cloth flowing around him, which whipped in the wind, giving him a wicked, demonic appearance. Going higher and higher, he could see across the entire city, all buildings below him.

The Howling Moon... he thought again. He knew where it was. In any other situation, he would simply teleport there, but he felt like flying today. It was such a nice evening. Besides, why not? I'm the master of the universe anyway, he thought, and grinned again.

And like the monstrous abomination of nature that he was, Raphael cleaved through the night sky, heading towards the Howling Moon at a relatively slow pace, easily visible to all that looked up. It was not long before his image appeared on the local news...

(Note; the cloak moves similar to a Dementor's, the horrid creatures from Harry Potter. If you haven't seen Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, search on Youtube for 'Dementor'. Wink)

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

A cold breeze opened the weak door to the restaurant. "It'll be chilly..." Ryne thought. He put the small jacket that he had brought from home on and headed out the door. It was time to go to the Howling Moon, but Ryne had a bad feeling about this. For all he knew, this was some diabolical plot to gather up all those with abilities and then just snipe them down. It sent chills down his spine; just the thought of it.

It was already getting dark outside, but it made him feel more secure. His electric abilities allowed him to see even better in the dark. He could make his eyes glow, making it like night vision, but better. The breeze picked up stronger causing Ryne to have to button it up.

He came up to the Howling Moon building. It wasn't too large, but not too small. "Here I go..." he said under his breath. The lights were quite bright in there, so he stopped using his "night vision". There were a couple seats open, so Ryne simply pulled up a chair and took a seat. He was still not confident that it was right to come here, but his instincts told him to go. He yawned and continued to wait for the "meeting" to happen.

Ten minutes Drew had stood outside the doors to the Howling Moon, 62 consecutive times he had flipped heads with the silver dollar in his hand. "Okay" he glared at the coin, "I get your point, I'm going in" Drew pocketed the offending token and began to cross the street before a wave of what could only be described as Wrong washed over him. Something had just occurred that had shaken the very foundations of reality, but within a few moments the nausea passed, after taking a minute to allow the cobwebs to clear from his brain,

Andrew finished his walk to the door of the bar and took a deep breath before opening the wolfshead door handles of the Howling Moon.
Drew had been here before once or twice since it was so close to home, but it had never been a favorite place for him, only one pool table and 2 dart boards really limited his ability to supplement his income, though as luck would have it the pool table was empty, so he walked purposefully toward the rack of cues, while simultaneously scanning the room for super-heroes, ambush possbilities and people to hustle at his favorite game of 'skill'.

It wasn't long before a pretty waitress brought him a Sam Adams, for a short time he thought about flirting, but in the end the possibility that she might be able to shoot fireballs from her eyes dampened his enthusiasm. Seeing no likely takers for a game of pool, Andrew retired to a corner table to ponder the meaning of the strange occurrance from earlier and the chain of events that had brought him to this point.
Andrew MacInnes shrugged to no one in particular and decided to settle in to wait to see what would happen next...

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

Post by Gunneh Thu Jun 18, 2009 10:59 am

He felt her skin on his but he was only slightly aware of it. Normally, her touch would have been like a wildfire to him, setting his soul ablaze to his very core, but his mind was running a million miles a minute. His eyes caught sight of the emergency vehicles, their sirens whining as they went to see what had happened to that restaurant and all those people….

He shook the feeling away, his eyes finally catching site of her hand in his. He smiled, but only just faintly, and started to feel a slight warmth in his cheeks. “You know,” he said softly, pulling her hand up with his, “I’ve waited ages for this moment. To be able to feel your soft skin against mine and know that it wasn’t like this because you were knocked out or dying or something.” He chuckled to himself and kissed the backside of her hand softly.

He sighed, his eyes moving towards the east. He knew what he had to do, but that didn’t mean that he wanted to do it. Still, the Council had to know what Jackson was up to, and that mean that he would have to leave her for just a little while. He stopped and turned her towards him, a soft smile gracing his hard features. “I hate to say it, but I’m going to have to take off for a little while, sweetheart. The Council has to know what Jackson is doing, and I’m the only one they’ll listen to.” He closed his eyes tightly and pursed his lips a bit.

He slipped the onxy bracelet from his wrist and slipped it over her hand. It made him smile to see how loosely it hung on her wrist, but he held it in. “You can handle it without me, I know you can. Just in case anything happens while I’m gone, hold onto this and call for me.” He smiled and kissed her hand again. “I’ll come running, baby. I couldn’t live without you, so saving you would be worth the Council being mad at me.”

He leaned in and kissed the corner of her mouth. He had no idea where all of this confidence had come from all of a sudden, but he just smiled as he watched her expression change. He muttered one of those quasi-latin phrases and a cloak of pure darkness covered him. His face was no longer visible inside the hood, only bright gleaming white eyes. Another latin phrase and the scythe was in his hand.

“Be safe,” he said, though the voice didn’t sound like his anymore. Another bit of latin and he was gone. He shimmered into place directly in front of the Council. “I request the attention of the High Council.”

“And what is your case, Reaper,” the Council said in unison, a perfect mixture of male and female voice.

“This city is in grave danger.”

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

Post by Guest Thu Jun 18, 2009 4:59 pm

Her pale cheeks flushed pink as he spoke to her. So he did like her and Jay wasn’t just fucking with her. She felt his lips on the back of her hand and another wave of heat reached her cheeks, causing them to turn a shade of red now. He turned her to face him and smiled. It had been so long since Adaley had seen Alex smile like that. He said he was leaving and she felt her confidence shatter. “No…Please Alex. Stay with me.” He shook his head. The council would only listen to him. He slipped his bracelet from his wrist to hers and then kissed the corner of her mouth. Before she could reach out to give him a proper farewell kiss, he was gone. “Reaper…”

Adaley looked down at the bracelet on her wrist. She wanted to call him back now so he could hold her, but she didn’t. He was right. They needed to know about Jackson. The man was apparently dangerous. She ran her fingers through her black hair before she walked into the Howling Moon. The lone girl walked to an empty booth big enough to fit at least ten people. She closed those golden eyes and began to concentrate. Anyone who had touched the cards the heroes were given would feel something dragging them towards her. They would all have the urge to come sit in the booth and none of them would know why until they sat.

She caught the eye of a guy who offered to buy her a drink. She smiled and accepted, telling him what she wanted. Adaley knew Alex wouldn’t like her flirting, but it was better than her sitting alone until people came over to her. The man brought her back her appletini and they talked for a few minutes. She would glance down at her bracelet every now and again, wishing it was Alex at her side. He kept her strong and confident and now she had no idea how she was going to talk to these people. Hopefully everything would go well even though he was gone.

We Are One Empty Re: We Are One

Drew followed the young woman with his eyes, to where she sat down alone in the 'party booth' in the corner. Almost instantly he felt that he would have to go talk to her - something was drawing him to her, maybe just the intrigue of a girl walking alone into a bar, or maybe it was that rare quality of a woman who doesn't have the slightest idea how stunningly beautiful she is...or maybe she was a 'meta' ...

"Oh, what the hell" he said, to no one in particular, and began to walk toward the booth where the newcomer had seated herself, but just before he had taken his third step another guy carrying some odd concocted drink sat down with her and began to carry on one of those bar pick-up conversations that you are bound to hear at least 40 times a night in a place like this. Andrew stopped for a moment before finally sitting down at the booth, opposite of the man on the prowl. A smirk crossed Drew's face fleetingly, "How is your wife, Dave?" The name was a guess that required the use of his ability, the marriage, on the other hand was simply playing the odds. Dave blanched, and then practically fell over himself exiting the booth.

Andrew watched him go, smiling as the man looked back over his shoulder quickly. "So..." He turned slowly toward the young woman sitting next to him, "My name is Andrew, and I suspect that you know why I'm here..."
