Back on Earth, 7 years after the RDA's expulsion from Pandora, the RDA is planning a massive attack on Pandora to retake the planet and gain control over the resources, namely the unobtanium. Pandoran rights activists sprang up across the globe, protesting the RDA’s return to Pandora. After the protests became violent, many of the activists were imprisoned, and those who were lucky enough to escape imprisonment continued to rally in secrecy. Secrecy was the only way to insure the activist’s survival and continuance of a plot against the RDA. The RDA banned Grace Augustine’s book as well as other published works detailing Pandora, and any information regarding Pandora became classified, limited to only the RDA and few other privileged eyes.

Unbeknownst to the RDA, materials needed to survive the planet Pandora, including shuttle crafts, exopacks, matter-antimatter reaction engines, and Avatar systems, were being collected and stored for a future excursion to Pandora. People both within the RDA and apart from it were collaborating together in order to smuggle these objects, often damaged, out of RDA territory. The time to move is fast approaching, and two major obstacles now face the activists: freeing their imprisoned colleagues, and stealing the ISV Justice: the Capital Star Class Interstellar Vehicle Justice. Justice is one of many ISV’s being prepped to carry the RDA and its army to Pandora. Such a craft is impossible to obtain in secrecy, and the activists know that by stealing this ship and traveling to Pandora, they will bring the ugly tide of the RDA right behind them.

Unknown to both the activists and the RDA, a group of amateur botanists who were among the last to leave Pandora have created a secret greenhouse with flora samples from Pandora. Its very existence is unknown to all but its creators, and for now the plants are in a controlled environment. The effect of pandoran flora released to Earth’s environment is completely unpredictable, and the act of doing so could be either detrimental or beneficial to Earth and its inhabitants. For now, the greenhouse remains sealed, but if the pandoran flora contaminates Earth’s ecosystem, there is no knowing what may happen.

Astronomy & Geology

Pandora is part of a neighboring star system which is approximately 4.4 light years away from earth. The Alpha Centauri system is a trinary system that consists of two sun-like stars (Alpha Centauri A and B) and a red dwarf (Alpha Centauri C). Alpha Centauri A is the sun for Pandora, which is a moon of the gas giant Polyphemus.

Pandora has a liquid iron core, plastic mantle, and semirigid crust. Pandora’s proximity to Polyphemus and its other moons causes tidal heating which increases continental drift. This in turn creates intense volcanism as well as fractures within the continental landmasses. The atmosphere is nitrogen-oxygen based, but is 20% denser than earth’s atmosphere. Due to increased volcanism, there are high levels of carbon dioxide as well as hydrogen sulfide, both lethal to humans.

The compound Unobtanium has unique magnetic properties, which has caused many spectacular geological formations such as the floating Hallelujah Mountains and the giant Stone Arches. It is a high temperature superconductor that is capable of both repelling magnetic fields and trapping them within itself. Unobtanium is vital for matter-antimatter energy generators, interstellar and deep space travel, superluminal (interstellar) communications, and operation of maglev trains.

The Na’vi
The Na’vi are the native humanoids of the moon Pandora. They are bipedal, with a long prehensile tail, protruding snout, feline eyes and ears. The size of an Average Male is approximately 3 meters tall, females slightly shorter. Their Smooth skin is an iridescent cyan color, with bioluminescent markings for identification and mood display. The Navi Queue looks like a long, simple braid, but encompasses neural tendrils which can access the neural network that makes up all life on Pandora. The Queue is used to connect to plant and animal life.

The Na’vi usually live in the rainforest region, with some outlying clans in the subarctic, swampland, and mountainous regions. They are omnivores, living in hunter-gatherer groups with some horticulture, including brewing. It is hypothesized that there was little Darwinian pressure to adapt to new traits, causing Pandora to have a slower evolutionary process than earth. The social and geographical distribution of clans has caused a consistency of population level as well as limit warfare among the clans.

The neural network of Pandora is known to the Na’vi as Eywa. Balance is the operative concept for the Na’vi, who have developed a vibrant, complex, and sophisticated culture based on their physical and spiritual connection to Eywa. They are superb artisans who celebrate their interconnectedness of nature through storytelling, song, dance and craft.

Human Technology on Pandora

“The largest single nongovernmental organization in the human universe, the Resources Development Administration (RDA) has monopoly rights to all products shipped, derived, or developed from Pandora or any other off-Earth location. These rights were granted to the RDA in perpetuity by the Interplanetary Commerce Administration (ICA), with the stipulation that they abide by a treaty that prohibits weapons of mass destruction and limits military power in space.”

• Avatars
  Avatar’s are cloned Na’vi humanoids, mixed human and Na’vi genetics. They were originally intended to replace the human miners on Pandora to reduce the costs of environmental protection systems and human food. But the costs were too high, and as a result the few Avatar’s in existence are used for field work.
  An unexpected side-effect of the combining of human and Na’vi genetics is the five-digit hand, rather than four, and smaller eyes. The reason for this is currently unknown.
  
  
• Matter-Antimatter Reaction
  
  Basic principle: When matter and antimatter come into contact, they annihilate each other and produce a tremendous amount of energy. The energy produced from this reaction was seen as the answer to Earth’s energy crisis, but because of the heat produced from the reaction it requires enormous refrigeration systems. Two-thirds of the original ISV ships were made up of refrigeration units to contain the heat and maintain the low temperature superconductor materials.
  Unobtanium, as a high temperature superconductor, significantly reduces the need for refrigeration units because of its ability to remain superconductive at high temperatures. All of Earth’s technology is dependent on Unobtanium for this reason, and it has a current market value of forty million dollars per kilo.
  
  
• Capital Star Class Interstellar Vehicle
  
  Ten Capital Star Class Interstellar vehicles were designed to travel between Earth and Pandora at maximum acceleration and deceleration to quickly reach (and retreat from) near lightspeed. While the Venture Star was designed to carry a large payload of supplies and passengers, with the purpose of establishing scientific and commercial outposts on alien worlds, the Justice was designed to carry military troops and vehicles for the security of those outposts.

RDA Weapons Guide

• Wasp Revolver

  This gun is often acquired privately by soldiers when standard-issue sidearms are not sufficient for many of the operations. The SN-9 Wasp has the reliability of a revolver and the necessary punch to make sure the enemy goes down when hit. It is of particular use on Pandora, where many of the dangerous animals (and aboriginals) are large and cannot always be brought down with standard RDA-issued sidearms. The position of the firing chamber behind the center-of-gravity allows the barrel to be centered over the handgrip, which improves the pistol's balance.
  
  CARB Weapon System

  The Cellular Ammunition Rifle Base (CARB) weapon system is an advanced, modular small-arms system designed to fit the needs of modern infantry as well as private military units and security personnel. The system is built around the CARB base unit, which is a fully automatic assault rifle with a bullpup configuration. A variety of modular equipment can be attached quickly and easily to the base unit.
  Matanza Arms Corp. developed the system to streamline their infantry weapons array down to a single multifunctional system. Although never adopted as the primary weapon system by any of the world's major armies, it became wildly popular with private military contractors (PMC's) and various special forces throughout Earth. Valued for its adaptability, simplicity, reliability, and innovative ammunition capacities, it quickly earned respect from these groups. The system has seen action on almost all continents and also on numerous off-world locations.

  Bullpup configuration (action and magazine both behind trigger) allows for an increase in the relative length of the barrel and thus more lethality at a distance. Base model can be modified for extended barrel, 20-millimeter munition launcher, day/night stabilized optical zoom scope. Ammo for munition launcher can include high explosives that are fin-stabilized, also grenade and tactical buckshot. Programmable airburst capability.

  Used as a backstop defensive measure and for capacity layering during security missions. This weapon can utilize a wide array of 20-millimeter munitions such as air-burst grenades, high-explosive rounds, armor-penetrating rounds, fléchette rounds (metal darts), cluster munitions delivery, etc.

  The GS-221 is manufactured by IBSF Protection Solutions, a multinational arms and ammunition dealer located in Stuttgart, Germany. The company was originally only an ammunition and tactical gear manufacturer called Protection Solutions, but later changed its name in support of its highly successful namesake technology, IBSF (Imprint Ballistics Solution on Firing).
  
  
• MBS-9M .50 Caliber Hydra

  The MBS-9M's primary function on Pandora has been as a Samson Tiltrotor and Scorpion Gunship door gun. The gun allows the operator a manual firing configuration, with ammunition supplied by the overall Samson vehicle weapons platform through the use of Masa-Cirre's proprietary Modular Belt System technology (MBS). In this way the crew chief has an overview of all weapons systems aboard the aircraft and can assess situations accordingly in real-time.
  The MBS-9M is a manual single-operator support weapon version of the Masa-Cirre MBS automated weapon system. It is the smallest variant in the MBS system, and unlike its automated and remote-operated brothers, it is designed for adaptability and configurability for use by ground forces; it can be held like a rifle or light machine gun, or mounted for gunners on vehicles and aircraft as needed. It is a modular weapon system, meaning it has various components that can be configured for different firing missions.

Physical Description: Leo is not physically overwhelming for a gun-for-hire. He is about 5'5'', has short, dark-brown hair in a standard military crew cut, an athletic musculature, and relaxed shoulders that slant downward. His face doesn't have any harsh marks and could even be described as soft, with the only visible imperfections being a few horizontal wrinkles that run parallel to each other on his forehead. His eyes are almond-shaped and his eyebrows, while not bushy, are not exactly thin (he is a half-inch away from a uni-brow, really). He has a soul patch beneath his lower lip, a round jaw, and a curvy face. His skin is a peachy cream color.
Clothing: Leo wears standard military uniform, and being just a run-of-the-mill grunt, he wasn't allowed to customize, much to his dismay.
Weapons: Customized CARB base with a longer barrel for sniping and a CARB shotgun for short-range. He also just uses anything he can find to his advantage.

Specialty: Army vet and former RDA mercenary, trained pilot and close combat specialist.

Physical Description: Alex is what you would expect from a battle hardened grunt. He stands at around 6’3”, weighing around 215 pounds, with tan leathery skin. Big shoulders, a broad chest, and thick limbs are the telling traits of his former career. His once shaven black hair has grown long since his return to Earth, hanging down to the back of his neck. A rough, shallow beard often adorns his face due to an apathetic lack of shaving, and his pale blue eyes look like they’ve seen things that normal people should never witness. He has Army tattoos scrawled over the inside of his right forearm and his left shoulder.

Clothing: Usually just dirty, torn up blue jeans, t-shirt, and a leather jacket that has seen better days. Usually wears his dog tags and combat boots.

Ok well it's not all his fault, his RP got a lot of activity. But I'm glad this one isn't dead!

Is this post satisfactory? I hope I didn't mix up my own thoughts on the situation with fact. Most of it is just the way Leo sees the current situation. You're welcome to contradict/butcher it to your heart's desire XD

It was great! I have no complaints about it.

I was left wondering whose "Side" your character was on, and by the tone of your post I think that was how I was supposed to feel I wonder though what would happen if an activist tried to bribe him?

He would be VERY tempted to do it, but Leo is too... well... "dumb-smart" to do it. He knows that if they found out he'd done this, they'd jail him for life, and a small illegal bonus wouldn't be good enough. If they DID bribe ANOTHER guard and he found out about it, though, he wouldn't report it. He would tell the guard not to do it, though, explaining just what was at risk if he slipped. Depending on whether the activists are armed or not, he'd either shoot them after giving a brief warning or just aim his gun and tell them to go home, that the bloodshed wouldn't be worth the junk behind the wall.

Yes, his allegiance is mixed. In morality and spirit, he's against the RDA. Physically and as he is, he's against the Na'vi (thanks to propaganda, which he ignorantly swallowed) and the activists. He's conflicted between what's right and common sense/self-preservation.

Ah, crap... here I go ranting... I tend to do this to explain new characters. There's more to it, you'll see.

I understand, at least what you have described, for I face it myself (though on a lesser level). Like...I do not want to drive a car, I support finding alternative means of transit, but where I live there are none...so, in self-preservation, I drive a car to and from school.

I was pondering that myself. I'm not sure.

One idea would be the activists holding him captive after he becomes agressive with them at the dump. That is rather extreme though, esp. since they are trying to be as low key as possible.

Another is him discovering their base and spying on it, or perhaps reporting it and being a part of the team that tries to infiltrate it.

Both of those are very extreme measures and if you can think of anything else I would be happy to hear it.

Activists trying to gain access to the dump by bribery;him unexpectedly refusing and sounding the alarm. He'll probably become a bit of a scumbag in their eyes for it, though.

Should I plan to send some NPC's out there, or my main character? Obviously I don't want her to be shot and killed, that is why I ask

I will work on my post tonight. No promises as to having it up...my characters are going to be in the heart of the RDA...so it is going to take a lot of thought to get this to come out right.

I don't think my activist character will meet up with the rest until the attempt to steal the ship. Perhaps not even until we arrive at Pandora itself.
The merc may or may not change sides. I'm not sure yet. I need to develop his character more and see where it goes.

I started working on a post, but got interrupted...hopefully I can finish it today.
