[OoC] Days to Come CalDtC2
Premise

It was just ten years ago that the infamous Blue Trinity, a Florida-based, government-funded organization whose sole purpose was to unlock all of Caligo's secrets for their own benefit and to expose it to the world, was defeated in a self-declared war of sorts by the native islanders with the help of their superior technology, Shade partners, and the natural tempests and defenses the island presented to outsiders. While Blue Trinity has been licking its wounds and regrouping for an inevitable return to the world's best-kept secret location, Caligo has been rebuilding and strengthening its defenses for just such an occasion, preparing for the next assault wave that could come at any time. With each day that goes by though without incident, the Caligoans feel their resolve and their confidence restoring, and for the first time in around forty years, they are enjoying a time of peace, the calm before the storm.

The tenth anniversary of their victory over the outsiders is here, and to celebrate, the Caligoans are throwing a festival, complete with a gorgeous firework display, famous native singer and dancer performances, and one of Caligo's favorite pastime's, Shade ability demonstrations. Nearly everyone in the whole of Caligo is attending the celebration, including one uninvited guest that has managed to stay hidden for over a thousand years... However, when his guard is let down, at long last, this being is sighted by multiple parties during the festivities, and once spotted, they follow him into the fog-covered forest depths of the island, not entirely sure what or who he is, but intrigued by his appearance and sensing the gravity and importance of who he is.

Meanwhile, since the war's end, a conflict among the Caligoans has been brewing. Gangs have been forming in different towns and cities, the largest and most intimidating of which in Phasmonia, all of which being composed of people who no longer have Shades, having lost their lives in the war, to unfortunate incidents, or for whatever reason. Since these Caligoans now age just like outsiders, they have naturally formed strong bonds with drifters, or those ordinary people who happened to come across the island and become stranded there.

Ever since outsiders have accidently found Caligo and washed ashore safely, some native Caligoans have formed prejudices against them, even going so far as to discourage forming relationships and producing children with outsiders, valuing their pure Caligoan blood. Though the Caligoans who do share this point of view are few and far between, because they do exist, the renegade bands of gangs without Shades, who have formed alliances with drifters, are using this prejudice to instigate and further justify their actions and outbursts against society.

Though Blue Trinity has not been seen since their defeat, Caligo still is struggling with their own controversies, and this time they're not so black and white. Now with the divine offworlder added into the mix, will it be enough to quell the internal disputes, or will Caligo fall into chaos, exposing all their weaknesses just in time for Blue Trinity to gather their forces and strike again?

Please just reply here saying that you wish to join. There's no need to post your character's biography here, as we can simply get to it via your profile. If you are joining in as alternative characters, it is not necessary to provide an in-depth bio unless you desire to. Simply stating basic information on them will suffice. If you already have some information about your other character(s) in your main character's info (whether in their family, friends, or bio section), then that should be enough.

This RP will be a slower-paced one. You will not be expected to make a reply quickly, though if you do not reply to the role-play within one month's time without any reason, you will be considered a nonparticipant. There will be no posting order, so people can reply at their leisure and when they feel it is necessary.

Because this role-play involves the 'gods,' AKA the aliens, here's some information about them. Obviously, this is only just what I had in mind when creating Caligo. This is NOT set in stone. In any other Caligo RPs, the gods can be completely different and up to the imaginations of the RP creator.

Caligo is essentially an experiment for the gods. Though they have left their experiment to blossom and develop on its own now, not returning to the island, they still keep watch from their homeworld or from space above.

Provectus - The Ancient Ones

Lifespan: Up to 10,000 years, with the average being around 8,500

Home Planet: Vaelzar
A massive world, with an equatorial diameter of 152,000 km and a gravitational pull of .75, Vaelzar has 3 large moons easily visible, and more than 30 small moons which orbit it. It has one large sun. The atmosphere isn't that dissimilar from Earth's, though with much more hydrogen. The planet is made up of 85% water, and thus many cities are not seen on land, but are rather submerged. The weather is fair, usually with a moist and humid atmosphere, ranging between only 50-90 degrees fahrenheit. Landscapes vary between vast jungles, to open fields and grassy hills, to swamps and low lands.

Language: Vaelish

Technology: Exceedingly Advanced

Appearance:
They are bipedal humanoids. Both the females and males possess different shades of blue hair, though as they age, it eventually becomes lighter, turning entirely white around the time they have lived for a couple millennia or so. They are nearly hairless beings everywhere else on their body. Their arms and legs simply grow soft peach fuzz. Males are typically taller, around 6'4" on average, while the females are closer to 5'11". They have very delicate and slender features, which are considered elegant. Their skin is usually porcelain white, with bluish discoloration on their chest and back - the front portion going down their middle, while the back going down their spine. Their eyes are always deep black, with no whites of the eyes ever visible. Their teeth are slightly sharper than a human's, and their canines are longer.

Diet: Carnivores
The will readily eat any creature or being, but prefer the nourishing retort pouch food they most commonly eat. They do not savor or enjoy meals, as humans do, but simply eat to live.

Government: Self-Rule Anarchy
Rule by individual responsibility, creativity, and input. A sort of meta-socialism/meta-democracy. This type of government requires advanced emotional and spiritual development, usually a society of superiors. Such government types can be very long-lived.

Culture:
The Provectus live in large societies, both on land and underwater. Their oceans are vastly deep, and their submerged cities can go for miles under the water. They never practice any arts, from singing to music, to any form of artwork, as they find little need for any type of entertainment, since it gives them no form of pleasure. Their kind possesses very little to no emotion. Thus, the Provectus find it hard to feel love, hate, anger, joy, sadness, or any type of human emotion, beyond a very minimal extent. These all are rather frowned upon and considered weaknesses. Their kind, instead, seems to care most about learning, giving one the impression they do have more curiosity than any other emotion. Their entire society devotes their time to science. All of their technological advances, which are the most highly developed in the universe, all are derived from their tireless endeavors, which they have long ago mastered. Their kind considers themselves superior to all other beings in the universe, and rightly so. They are not only capable of traveling between galaxies, but have on numerous occasions, visiting countless planets, star systems, and moons in their history, leaving behind worlds of lesser beings to worship them as gods. Though it is debatable, they are naturally "good," if that can be said.

The Provectus are the "planters," the "creators," the "gods" of the universe. They are the ones responsible for almost all the bipedal beings in the universe, as they created them. To the Provectus, their creations are experiments of billions of different types and in depths far greater than the human mind could comprehend. They created all the humans on Earth, along with many other humanoids, some closely resembling humans, others looking rather different in various ways.

It is common in Provectus society for the children to never meet their real parents, but instead to be raised by the society as a whole, each individual contributing to the growth, development, and learning of the young ones. At birth, the babies are taken to a very specialized facility, which consists only of a "smart building" and the infants. There are no adult Provectus that work there. The building itself is fully capable of providing everything the infants all need until they reach the age of three. This early stage of life is considered to be a very trying time in which all the young Provectus must learn that, in the universe, the only ones they really have are themselves. Such a lesson would be considered cruel and impossible for any human child, but for the Provectus, it is not only feasible, but a timeless tradition. Afterward, they are released out into the world to be taken care of by the community and live in a different facility until they reach their teen years, during which point, they typically go off to live on their own. It is quite common, as is with humans, for many Provectus to live in the same building, similar to apartments, though theirs are usually much larger and more complex.

Beliefs:
The Provectus worship no gods, but rather believe solely in the universe itself. They are aware that the universe has a will of its own, and honor that, though do not devote any religious homage to it. They simply respect the universe and the universe alone.

Contrasts From Humans:
Their eyesight is more advanced than a human's, as they can see in more vivid colors with more contrast and even more sharply. They also have much better night vision. Provectus have minds that are highly evolved and capable of much more than a human's. Their carrying capacity too well exceeds Earthlings. The overall physical strength of a Provectus is very similar to a human's though, and their bodies are just as frail and delicate and can easily get hurt or be killed. However, their reflexes are also superior to a human's, and therefore they can react much faster. One major difference between the Provectus and humans, is that Provectus are able to move objects with their minds, using what humans would call telekinesis. They also are telepathic, able to communicate entirely through thoughts and even share images between each other through their minds. They may communicate telepathically to other beings, but those who do not have the proper mind power to handle such an enhanced and evolved form of commutation can suffer from it. Minor symptoms include headaches, nose bleeds, and dizziness. Prolonged communication via telepathy in under-evolved beings can lead to black-outs for them, migraines, memory loss, concussions, and even death.

Background:
The Provectus are primordial beings, the first ever to evolve into intelligent life forms in the universe. They know no other agenda but to learn, discover, and invent. Their entire species consists of what we would call scientists. They take everything from a scientific point of view, learning it inside out to better their technology and understanding of the universe. It is, always has been, and always will be their ultimate goal to learn everything about the universe and all that lies inside it.

Besides their appearance, one of the most notable features of The Ancients are their speech. The Provectus speak slowly, and in a calm manner. Because they do not feel any real human emotions, they find no need to speak at a rate quicker than what is natural. They also never lie - not because they're afraid, but simply because they have no need to. Their species is extremely direct and straightforward. If they do not know something, though it is a shame to them, they will openly admit it.

The experiments that the Provectus endlessly conduct on countless different planets range greatly, but the tests in which the Provectus "seed," or give life to another planet and then watch the development of that life is called the Intergalactic Genesis Experimentation, or IGE.

I'm just going to scoot my butt right on in here. I got the okay from Fate to puppeteer Blue Trinity for this story, so don't expect Caligo's old rival to go dormant this round. Wink

Not sure if I'll be using my Caligo character or not. If I am, I'm going to need to do some refreshing and fill in the blanks. For the time being, I'll be focused on BT, however.

Thanks for responding, guys. I hope you're all catching up with whatever you need to right now (be it rereading Caligo information or working on your character).

I'll probably make the first IC post within the week. I will most likely start working on it tomorrow before work. The good news is, I will be bringing my Macbook over to my boyfriend's house, so I will now have internet access everyday of the week (as opposed to just Tuesday through Friday when not at work). Of course this isn't to say I'll be on all day, obviously, but I'll be more available in order to keep up with reading any new posts and/or making my own. As established from the beginning though, this RP will be slower paced.

No worries there, Ryona! Even though I can check the internet more often, I personally never spend more than 1-10 minutes online at a time on most occasions lol. So I definitely plan on always sticking with the slower pace for this RP. I especially like that idea, since it means no stress and anxiety for the people involved.

The S&S will work out perfectly for my "Shade-napping" conspiracy with BT and G22. I was beginning to worry that I wouldn't find a place to tie everything together, but now I've got a straight shot lined up.

This is already getting interesting. I like the ideas that you have going on for combining the two (deniable) government agencies, Agenda. It'll be fun to see where they fit in to the rest of the story going on.

I also edited some of my post, just a few little things here and there, but mostly updated the bottom portion (Faust's part) with a little more information.

Thank you, Fate!

G22 Data
Classified: Top Secret

Dossier (currently compiling):
It is not known what “G22” stands for. The organization is believed to be composed of former intelligence operatives and soldiers from various international organizations and governments, which suggests G22 as a whole is familiar with the protocols of intelligence agencies worldwide. Due to their ability to lure experienced members despite their utmost secrecy, it is believed that G22 has extensive funding to cover the cost of their operations. Even G22’s division of command is not fully understood – but considering their network, it is assumed their goals involve political and economic operations on a global scale.

Their leader, codenamed Albatross, is perhaps even more of a mystery than the organization itself. He claims that “his” organization knew about Blue Trinity’s affairs with the Caligoans back at the turn of the millennium, but his apparent age suggests that he wasn’t even born then. The number of leaders G22 has seen, and when exactly the organization was founded, remains to be speculative.

G22 Aurora Project

The project in the 1980's. The U.S. government created a starting budget of $800,000 for researching hypersonic flight up to speeds of mach five and higher. The project's budget was increased to $8 million for construction of an alpha prototype; however, the government later denied ownership of the craft when public rumors offered speculations and eventually scrapped the project all together in 1991 after the end of the cold war.

G22 picked up where the development was left off at in 2013 and reconstructed the craft to create the Aurora II. Until 2031 the Aurora jets were used as spy planes, but converted into bombers in order to provide quick-reaction and devastating air strikes. The latest version is the Aurora H7 Stealth Bomber; awarded the title for its ability to fly at an incredible speed of mach seven and maintain its stealth with the upgrade to adaptive camouflage technology. The H7 carries one 20 kiloton fuel air bomb with a pre-detonation neutron blast to permanently disable electronics for up to a half mile radius.

G22 Adaptive Camouflage Technology

Also referred to as ACT, this new technology utilizes nanobots to record images they see and offer a polarized projection through their counterparts. The nano technology is also able to absorb multiple wave lengths, including radar and commonly used radio frequencies. This makes the ACT user both invisible to the enemy and disruptive of their operations.

ACT development began in 2006 after the Super Soldier concept of the U.S. Army was being put on display for the Department of Defense. G22's intelligence archives contained more than enough data of the program to start the construction of their own advanced war fighting suits. The project was named "Ice Man" and took nearly five years and seven million dollars to complete a prototype. The first ACT utilized disruptive light wave technology that would alter the color spectrum and create an optical to the untrained eye. However, movement caused the disruption emitters to temporarily stop, making the user vulnerable to detection. The suit also required a lot of power, provided by the ion cell battery pack carried on the user's back.

In 2014, nano technology took off and became more widespread in not only the medical fields, but in military application as well. Norton Cromwell, an engineer and aspiring freelance photographer, created the first nanocam in 2016. G22 instantly began redesigning the Ice Man suit in light of the nano technology. Two years later, the first ACT All-Environment Tactical Suit (otherwise known as the ACT TacSuit) was used in an infiltration operation in China. The agent was never seen or remotely detected by host-nation security measures.

G22 Particle Dispersion Tech

The U.S. Air Force and Army had been using rail gun technology since its first development during the War on Terror, but in 2011 the military put a halt on future rail development projects due to a shrinking budget and dwindling economy. G22 saw an opportunity to get ahead of the game. Lightning caused by the ionization of atmospheric molecules had brought devastation since the world began. The organization wanted to harness the effects of ionization in a powerful but mobile weapon system that possessed the "shock-and-awe" of a rail gun.

G22 saw that a rail gun's biggest flaw was its slow charge time and lack of portability. The project to reduce the size down to a rifle and alter its power source began in 2013 after G22's R&D department created a fission core that would provide the desired power for the level of ionization needed to cause significant damage to most armored targets. The first power supply was a backpack attached to the butt of the rifle with a coil that would support the energy transfer from the fission battery to the weapon system. While the rate of fire was sufficient - a sustained rate of 12-14 icpm (ion chargers per minute) - the pack was too bulky and caused strain on the user. The original idea was that the fission cells would recharge over time, allowing for - ideally - unlimited bursts. G22 replaced the concept with magazine-sized battery packs carrying the same charge that could be inserted into the rifle and removed when exhausted. The magazine cells could be recharged at a later time.

By 2010, G22 had an arsenal of PDT weapons ranging from sidearms to sniper rifles. The term "particle dispersion" eventually replaced "ionization" after noting that the light-blue bursts discharged upon firing the weapon did more dispersion damage than what lightning was notorious for.

Spoiler:

G22 Shadow Agents

An intelligence agency is nothing without its espionage assets and spooks. The ones commonly known as "Shadows" are essentially G22's spies. Well-trained and wittingly resourceful, Shadows have infiltrated every world power government and constantly relay secret information to G22 archives every day.

While not necessarily trained to fight, they can quickly escape and evade most conflict and are only aggressive when cornered and faced with no other option. A Shadow's most valuable skill and weapon is his or her silver tongue. Their charisma is what has earned them seats in every influential enterprise and organization around the globe.

G22 Commando

Throughout Operation: Enduring Freedom, G22 understood that espionage wasn't enough to maintain the favor of the U.S. government's deniable protection. Towards the end of OEF, G22 had initiated their own special forces training unit, focused on recruiting soldiers with formal training from military branches around the world, but only a select few can hold their positions at any given time. G22 designated the resulting warriors "Commandos".

Commando training consists of a technical aptitude level comparable to the U.S. Army Ranger training in the first phase, which lasts about three months. The second phase of training is comprised of COIN (counter insurgency) operations exercises, as well as instruction and application of anti-terrorism measures with the cooperation of several world-class anti-terror agencies (among these are the U.S. Delta Force, Russian Spetsnaz, German KSK, British SAS, and French GIGN. Finally, the third phase of training consists of "deniable ops" exercises in which the applicants learn the art of stealth and infiltration, as well as assassination and interrogation. The entire training regiment is covered in all of one year.

It is unknown how many Commandos exactly are working for G22, but only a handful exist at any given time, as is protocol.

Joint Intelligence Operations

in order to share information and intel freely, Blue Trinity and G22 created a merged intelligence branch, commonly referred to as JIO (pronounced gī • ō ). While the branch is commanded and funded by G22, it is currently based at Blue Trinity's oceanic operations platform outside the Bermuda Triangle. Other than a hub of information, JIO also acts as a control center for G22 Commandos in the Caligo AOR. Shadows in the AOR, however, operate under a different command branch in order to maintain a positive separation from Blue Trinity. Intel gathered by Shadows is first relayed to G22 High Command before it is filtered down to smaller hubs like JIO.

G22 CHASSI

By 2030, G22 had turned what was once only believed to be science fiction into reality. The same can be said for the their application of cyber technology, where the organization put forth a four million dollar investment into the development of an artificially intelligent computer program that would provide automated assistance and mission handling to both operatives in the field and task managers at home stations. The program was completed in 2031 at the end of the year and dubbed the name CHASSI for Computer Handler Assistant.

As the name suggests, CHASSI was outfitted with a female voice - which many claim is rather lifelike upon hearing "her" - and communicates effectively to G22 personnel through their computer systems and other devices linked to CHASSI's network hub in G22's command center.

Post by Gadreille Sat May 28, 2011 12:06 pm

I just want to let you know, I am finally reading the IC and I've decided to alter the dates of Brenna's husband's disappearance so that he will be alive during this time. I think he will be wrapped up with the S&S. I will do that now, finish reading the IC and OOC (Ghost Writer, I'm not caught up on your stuff yet) and then I will post. I don't think I'll get it done today, but I will try.

nevermind. I can't do it, lol. For some reason, I loathe changing anything about her, even her history. So, I will just have to do without him.

Haha, that was the end point anyway. I have a feeling I will just work it into her backstory, somehow.

So, I've rewritten the post three times...and I'm still not sure that I'm happy with it, but it was either post or give up, so I posted. Let me know if there is anything that needs to be fixed, I had a whining taeo on my lap for half of it so it was hard to concentrate on the details.

I'm really loving your character Ryona! There's a deep, philosophical side to her that makes me giddy to find out more about what she's thinking. After reading her profile, she also reminds me of a Lara Croft-type character; her smarts coupled with the small, yet effective weapons concealed on her person makes out for a dangerous and adventurous individual.

Thank you. There is so much I want to talk about, and yet I barely talk about anything and end up jumbling through my thoughts and getting no where. Lol. I was wanting it...I don't know...better, I guess, I feel like my last post with this character was much more thought out. But I'm glad you like it so far Smile Hopefully I will be better focused in the future.

Nonsense! I thought it was great! Revealing too much about her past now would only serve to probably bore the reader. I prefer you continue to tease us to read further into her mysterious quondam self. I have fun with that kind of reading! XD

I will do my best to get a post in sometime after the 1st. I've got to finish getting to 15k words for the Fogathon, and a few other things. But I do plan on posting.

I agree - great post, Ryona! Smile I'm really getting quite excited about this RP. I'm very glad we're all doing it.

Agenda, your comment in your post made me think, and I really liked what you said about separating Shades from their people, so I added this paragraph under The Gift section of Caligo info:

Because Shades can only exist on the island, their human partners are not capable of being separated from their Shade by any great distance. The Caligoans have determined that at around five miles away from their Shade, they begin to feel weak, tired, and sick, as if a part of their own soul has been detached from them. If the Shade and their human counterpart continue to move apart from one another, their bond will be lost forever, and the Shade will cease to exist, thus leaving their human mortal and doomed to age like the rest of humanity.

Thank you, very much, Fate! To be honest, I actually thought that information was already in the information thread, that's why I was exploiting the weakness to begin with. But if I'm wrong, then at least we added something worth the consideration in future Caligo RPs. Smile

Addition:

Would it hurt for me to continue to post in the IC and develop the story further on the BT and G22 end? Nothing I have so far would directly impact anything on the island; it would actually start to rev things up in the background so when we ...erh... finally get to that point, it flows smoothly. Razz It's just that I want to keep interest going in the story as it appears that previously-mentioned plans for posting have some kinks in them at the moment.

**This is a good theme for this roleplay. The wildlife and scenery of Caligo as well as the conflict.**

So in the thread, I should just begin with where I think Fevlov is in the story's environment right now?
Also, after reading about the details of the Provectus, it reminded me of other alien races I have in my mind. This is nothing solid now, but if the story develops with the undertones I think it will, I plan on instilling them into it much later, due to the convenient slow pace. I suppose I should wait to add them to the OOC.

That's correct. Very Happy FoG in Caligo works just like any other role play environment. Feel free to start your character wherever you see fit.
