MECA: The New Beginning

Man: A human Individual as representing the species, without reference to sex.

Machine: An apparatus consisting of interrelated parts with separate functions, used in the performance of some kind of work.

Prologue

Earth is a planet that can sustain life. Plants, animals, insects; all of them shared the Earth and were nurtured by the planet. These beings undergone a slow and rigorous process called evolution, each of them trying to adapt to new environment. Everything had a balanced cycle that went on and on and on, that is until a certain creature came about to the Earth’s surface. These creatures possessed a gift that the ones before them didn’t; a higher level of intellect. With that gift, these creatures along with the listless transformation called evolution flourished. Over long periods of time, they have progressed, conquering different trials thrown at them time and again by their mother planet. How? By skillfully utilizing whatever resources they find and masterfully crafting them into tools, they have survived. These creatures were later known as Man, and by the time they were called a human, they were already the dominant race on the planet.

With the passing of time, humans have progressed at an incredible rate. Being innovative and having an insatiable hunger for advancement, they thought that the natural process of evolution has become too slow for them. Striving to achieve more, they devoted their efforts to the research and development of their technology. However, the more they created, the farther they were drawn apart. Where others have succeeded, many have failed. One human’s success is another’s misery. This has become the catalyst for emotions such as envy, greed, anger, and hatred. The result? War. Those who envied resorted to plunder, those who were greedy aimed for dominance, those who were angered desired vengeance, and those who hated sought destruction. These emotions and reactions have been studied and were later on known as Human Nature.

The Nuclear War

Countries that fell behind in the race for superiority united in an attempt to take down a single country that remained ahead of the game for a long period of time. Naturally, the more superior country felt the need to protect its existence and retaliated. Being technologically advanced in all aspects, the superior country launched a counter offensive against the united front; by using their most advanced weapon at that time, the nuclear bomb. The united countries were struck with fear and resentment by the awesome power displayed by the weapon and was forced to throw down their arms to surrender. The superior country was successful at keeping its place as the leading country and delivered a time of peace. However, that peace at the cost of countless lives was short lived.
Those who were scarred by the war strived to match the superior country’s weapon technology and succeeded in doing so. Thus, another challenge had been thrown out and the earth was once again thrust into the vortex of chaos.

Even under these harsh circumstances, the humans have progressed at an even faster rate. War was indeed the driving force for human advancement. Different technologies be it social, medical, agricultural, economic and warfare all remarkably flourished because of war. It was gruesome and yet… the beings called humans walked the same path time and again for the sake of advancement and becoming superior to others. However, there was a price to superiority. Those who rose to the top became the oppressors, and those who were surpassed became the oppressed. With these ever changing times of advancement, the cycle of war could not be broken.

The Aftermath

Time again played its part and passed; to a point where nobody remembers how long it took for the planet to heal. Holed underground for so long, many who have lost all hope perished and few who have held on despite the future’s uncertainty survived. These few people became the second coming of the human beings to a newly reborn Earth…

The aftermath of the Nuclear War was epic. The Earth’s surface was completely transformed. Numerous islands have vanished and only water remained. By the time the second coming of man had the ability to remap the Earth’s surface, they were surprised to find out that only two large bodies of land remained intact. With this unexpected development, the humans divided the earth into two, the Eastern Hemisphere and the Western Hemisphere. Having no means to bridge the wide distance between the two bodies of land that remained, trade is not possible at this time. Thus, people of the East and West Hemispheres devoted their time on research and development and treated themselves as the only ones who survived.

The Second Coming

Lyrana

A peaceful country located in the Eastern Hemisphere of the globe. Rich in natural resources, Lyrana has prospered over the years under a democratic government. Through modern industrialization, life was good and the people were happy and content in Lyrana. If anyone wanted to live in peace and prosperity, Lyrana is without a doubt, a country where they should go. “A Dream come true.” For the people of Lyrana, without a shadow of a doubt, that is certainly the best words to describe life in their country. At this point in time, Economy is Lyrana’s primary strength. People devoted themselves into economic improvement and culture, living their lives with no worries.

Viranthica

The country hailing from the Western Hemisphere had a different approach in development. In terms of resources, Viranthica thought they had plenty and devoted themselves into military improvement. Under a dictatorship rule, life in Viranthica is never easy. People were divided into three classes - Primera, Segunda, Tercera. Those of Primera class are people with strong influence while those of the Segunda class belonged to the military, Tercera class are the laborers. By the time people of Viranthica realized that resources are scarce, it was already too late. They have devoted too much of their resources into the military and are in danger of economic collapse. Unable to resolve the problem with resources on their own, the people of Viranthica turned to the east. As a last effort to save their dying country, Viranthica used whatever is left of their resources to create the Ressureccion. A giant cost efficient trade-ship capable of flying at hypersonic speeds and bridged the distance between the Eastern and Western Hemispheres.

War once more

The first meeting between Lyrana and Viranthica was a success. Though the people of Lyrana were surprised that their visitors are well capable of traveling great distances, they were anticipating this event and knew that it was bound to happen. Lyrana warm-heartedly welcomed their guests to their humble country. Viranthica wasted no time and made a quick analysis of Lyrana, they immediately knew that they were far superior to Lyrana in terms of technological advancement however, Lyrana far surpasses them in economic success. Coming to the east will no doubt save their dying country.

Wasting no time, Viranthica began trade negotiations with Lyrana. In exchange for a part of Lyrana’s resources and economical methods, they promised Lyrana a part of Viranthica’s technological know-how. Seeing it as a beneficial deal for both countries, Lyrana accepted and provided Viranthica with resources in exchange for technological guidance. Mankind again stepped into the platform of advancement. For years the two countries shared a mutual trade relationship and both countries prospered. Thanks to Lyrana’s resources, Viranthica was able to stabilize its economy and steadily progress. On the other hand, with the help of Viranthica’s technology, Lyrana successfully increased their economical prosperity to new heights and at the same time rapidly advanced in technology.

As time passed, Lyrana had finally managed to grasp the basics of technological advancement. Thanks to Lyrana’s natural wealth, they were easily able to fund research in different Viranthican technologies seeking ways to improve or create new technology from the existing. This act allowed Lyrana to take a step forward hence, the birth of Lyrana technology came forth.
Lyrana’s success however, struck fear into the heart of Viranthica’s leader. They now see the country of Lyrana as a threat to Viranthica. Fearing that Lyrana will take a giant leap ahead of them, Viranthica decided to cut off all ties and sever their mutual trade relations with the Eastern country. The displeased country of Lyrana immediately knew the reason behind the Western country’s sudden change of heart. Fearing for the worst, Lyrana wasted no time and began improving their military strength. They were right to do so, for they knew the old saying “One man’s success is another’s misery” all too well.

It was only a matter of time until Viranthica launched their first offensive against the Eastern country in hopes that they would be able to conquer it easily. Little did they know that Lyrana was already more than capable of fending for themselves. The result? Viranthica lost the first offensive. The time of peace again had ended, and another cycle of war began…
